Shedding intermittency in a shockwave-laminar boundary layer interaction

Abstract

The interaction between an oblique shock wave and a laminar boundary layer has been studied using Direct Numerical Simulations at Mach = 2.25 for a shock angle \beta = 33:1 degrees. For these shock conditions, the boundary separates and forms a large recirculation bubble. Unlike in the turbulent case, the vortices created in the shear layer are found not to be uniformly distributed along the spanwise direction because of a strong shedding intermittency.
